Minimum Requirements

Basic Requirements

        • Be at least eighteen (18) years of age and under forty-five (45) years of age at time of hire.

        • Must have earned a high school diploma or a GED.

        • Have a valid Texas driver’s license at the date of hire.

        • Must be a citizen of the United States of America by birth or naturalization, or a permanent resident.

        • Be able to read, write, and speak the English language.

        • Be of good moral character.

        • Be certified as a Paramedic at time of written exam and obtain Texas Department of State Health Services Paramedic Certification by date of offer.

        • Meet all legal requirements necessary to become certified as a Basic Firefighter by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection.

        • Be capable of being certified as a basic firefighter by the Texas Commission on Fire¬†Protection (this means that you are capable of being trained and certified).


Complete Hiring Process

        • Successfully complete the physical ability test.

        • Achieve a minimum passing score of seventy (70) percent on the written examination.

        • Pass oral interviews.

        • Pass a background investigation.

        • Successfully complete a psychological examination and medical examination that includes passing a visual acuity test, and physician certification that the applicant is not dependent on and does not use illegal drugs.
